Mystery reader in PYP G4 B

A Guest Reader visited our PYP 4th grade classroom to share a very interesting story with the students. The identity of the reader was kept a secret up to the point where she entered the classroom on the scheduled day. The students were very surprised to see one of their classmate’s parents walking through the door and the child of the Mystery Reader could not believe her eyes when she saw her mom!
The Mystery Reader brought an interesting book to read to the whole class. It was followed by a discussion about the topic. Changing things up a bit and inviting a guest reader added variety to the classroom atmosphere, exposed students to other readers whose styles are different than the classroom teacher and built excitement for reading as the students did not know who the reader would be. This type of activities also leads to parent involvement in school life, which is so important for students’ social development.
