Student Support Center
The Student Support Center (SSC) comprises of Language Service,Learning Support Programme, the School Counseling Service, Speech and Language Therapist’s office and the School Health Service. At the European School we realize that as well as academic achievement, the physical and psychological development of students is crucial to a positive and enriching school experience.
The purpose of the Student Support Center is to nurture students’ physical and psychological development. The center is dedicated to teach teenagers how to learn and work in any environment, help them achieve social success and gain necessary skills for self-realization.
The English as an Additional Language (EAL) Programme provided by the LanguageService supports students whose primary or secondary language is not English, enabling them to develop the necessary reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to be successful in school.
The English as an Additional language teachers work with individuals or small groups of children who have little or no English competency. Students receive intensive English andregular supportfor several months. The EAL teacherswork in close co-operation with the homeroom teachers.
Students are referred to the EAL Programme through a placement test, by referrals from homeroom teachers. Individual needs and the number of students requiring assistance determines how the programme is delivered. EAL classes take place during school hours as inclusion support or sheltered lessons.
Learning Support Program
Learning Service encourages and supports student led learning through a range of elective lessons. Students in all grade levels choose from a selection of classes both during the school day and in the after-school time slots, which nurture and develop student interest and needs to be improved. Every subject teacher is available in learning center. They can provide the students with extra lessons in every subject they need.
The one-on-one and group lessons are conducted both in the first half of the day, as well as later on, after classes.
Who studies at the center?
Students from different countries attend the language classes at the SSC if they wish to learn Georgian. A special schedule is created for them. Individual schedule of extra lessons is created for the students with low academic achievements and for those who have many absences due to health reasons.
