Learning Together: A PYP Assembly at Tsavkisi Campus

Our Tsavkisi Campus community came together for a joyful and meaningful PYP assembly, organised and led by our students and teachers, celebrating the essential elements and values of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The assembly opened with the PYP Anthem, bringing everyone together around our shared commitment to learning, growth, and international-mindedness. Throughout the event, students and parents participated in a variety of engaging activities and performances, including sand art and songs, all connected to the essential elements of the PYP. These experiences offered a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the partnership between school and family and to demonstrate how learning becomes more meaningful when our community learns together.

All activities and performances were carefully guided and supported by the dedicated team of Tsavkisi Campus educators, whose collaboration and thoughtful preparation helped create an engaging and purposeful experience for students and families alike.

As part of the assembly, Dr. Brice, Principal of the International Baccalaureate Programmes, and Ms. Tina, PYP Head and Coordinator, led sessions highlighting the importance of the IB Learner Profile, approaches to learning skills, and key concepts. Their sessions invited students and parents to reflect on how these elements shape the learning experience, support the development of the whole child, and help learners become knowledgeable, caring, reflective, and internationally minded individuals.

The programme continued with a special recognition of our Student Council members, who were awarded certificates in acknowledgement of their participation and leadership. This was followed by a discussion emphasising the importance of student voice, choice, and ownership. These are fundamental aspects of the PYP, as they empower students to express their ideas, make meaningful decisions, take responsibility, and actively contribute to their learning environment and wider school community.

A particularly memorable aspect of the event was that the entire assembly was led by David, one of our Grade 5 students. His confident and thoughtful leadership was a powerful demonstration of what the PYP seeks to nurture in young learners. Through his communication, responsibility, and ability to guide the programme, David exemplified student agency in action, showing how children can take ownership, lead with confidence, and inspire others within their community.

The assembly was a joyful celebration of collaboration, learning, and student leadership. It reflected the strong partnership between students, teachers, and parents and demonstrated how the PYP creates opportunities for learners to put their knowledge, skills, and values into action.
