On the first day of school, we were honored to host representatives of Duke University. Anne Sjostrom, associate dean of the Duke undergraduate admissions and Jennifer Bailey, from Duke Kunshan University, paid a visit to the European School.

American High School Grade 10 Visit BOLNISI-TANDZIA

On Friday, June 1, seventeen Grade 10 students accompanied by their Georgian teacher, Mrs. Tekla Beradze, and Mr. Joseph Blake, Director with two professional hiking guides explored the natural beauty of the hills of Georgia on their way to admire the famed church of Bolnisi – Tandzia. Encapsulating the vibrant historical and religious nature of the area and the foundations of the church in the 13th Century, both students and staff were mesmerized by the verdant valley and tranquility of its location.

Senior Project Presentations at the European School

On Tuesday, April 17, the American High School Senior students had their Senior Project Presentations. Preparing Senior Projects is obligatory for AHS seniors. They write research papers and then present them to an academic audience. The jury evaluates two components: the relevance of the topic and the speaker’s presentation skills. Students are free to choose their research paper topics but work closely with their supervisors who provide them with sources and constructive feedback.

AHS World History Classes attend Michelangelo Exhibition

On Tuesday, March 27, Grade 8 and 9 World History classes with their teacher, Mr. Joseph Blake viewed the exhibition Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel – Preparatory Drawings by famed Italian artist, sculptor, architect and poet of the Renaissance epoch - Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) at the National Gallery, Tbilisi. The exhibition allowed all to view the graphic details, including the hand from the fresco "Creation of Adam" and figures from the fresco "The Fall of Man and the Expulsion from the Garden of Eden". The exposition also incorporated multimedia, as well as the screening of the film "Journey to Discover Michelangelo."

Basketball Day at the European School

The European School gym hosted a basketball match between Georgian Program and American High School teams on April 17, 2018. Georgian Program beat the American High School 69:64. Irakli Kochiashvili and Luka Tsurtsumia became the players of the day, scoring 42 and 34 points, respectively.

American High School hosts Guest Speaker

“Russian-Georgian Relationships and Civil Activism in Georgia” On Monday, April 2, the American High School hosted noted political analyst and social activist Mr. Nikoloz Berulava who addressed the “Russian-Georgian Relationship and Civil Activism in Georgia” to students in the AP Comparative Government and Politics class and two World History classes. Mr. Berulava stressed the important role of each individual in society towards achieving the greater public good. He further emphasized that each citizen’s inaction serves as a tragedy for society as only individuals may improve it by their responsibility and action. The students in attendance discussed the topic and participated in several lively debates.

US Embassy at the European School

On April 2, 2018, The European School had the honor to welcome the representatives of the US Embassy in Georgia – Elizabeth Rood, Deputy Chief of Mission, and Jenni Gunnoe, Community Liaison Office (CLO) coordinator. Sophie Nonikashvili, a junior from the American High School and the chairperson of the European School Student Parliament, and Aleksandre Lomadze-Gabiani, a senior from AHS, organized a tour of the school’s facilities for the guests.

Tinatin Macharashvili Wins the Contest of French Institute in Georgia

Tinatin Macharashvili, the European School French teacher, came out on top in the contest organized by French Institute of Georgia and earned a scholarship to attend a two-week long qualification course at Université Francophonia, Nice, France. The course will focus on modern methods in foreign language learning and teaching. In addition, the course aims at developing intercultural skills which are the key elements of successful intercultural relations.

The European School Students Succeed in Karate

On March 24-25, 2018, Georgian Karate Federation hosted the “Open Tbilisi 2018” Karate championship. Natia Tutberidze and Ana Darchiashvili, American High School grade 10 students successfully participated in the championship. Natia Tutberidze earned a gold medal in the 14-15-year-old age category.
