The WikiCamp at the European School

On May 19, 2018, the European School hosted – for the second time – a one-day WikiCamp organized by the “School of Young Historians.” The European School, together with the other schools across the country, joined the WikiCamp.

The camp was organized by Manana Shekiladze, the president of the Georgian Association of History of Educators and the teacher at the European School.

During the day, the camp participants uploaded 300 articles about cultural heritage sites on the occupied territories of Tskhinvali and Kareli on Wikipedia.

David Nozadze, the European School teacher, showed students how to add cultural heritage locations to Google Maps.

Over the course of the project, students have added added a number of cultural heritage sites to Google Maps (Abkhazia: 176 locations, Shida Kartli -153, Akhalgori – 334, Tskhinvali and Kareli – 300)

Students’ active engagement may result in the foundation of Wikimedia Georgia in 2020.
