PYP Coffee Morning: Arts, Music, and Wellbeing
Our PYP Coffee Morning was a warm and engaging experience that brought together creativity, collaboration, and mindfulness for the grade 1 students and parents.
During the Art session, students and parents came together for a heartfelt art therapy session. With each brushstroke, they expressed their feelings, shared their energy, and connected through a beautiful, collective canvas. It was a powerful reminder of how creativity can heal, inspire, and bring our community closer.
In Music, students and parents explored the power of rhythm and melody together. They learned new songs and combined them with simple movements, building confidence and joy in performance. During the session, the music teachers provided a brief overview of how Music operates within the PYP framework. They highlighted the specific methodologies used to develop essential IB learner profile attributes and subject-specific skills, such as creative thinking, collaboration, and self-expression. By engaging in these interactive activities, parents gained insight into how music serves as a vehicle for inquiry-based learning.
The Well-being session focused on the power of interaction and the importance of reconnecting with our children. The journey began with a lively game of Bingo, an interactive icebreaker that helped families step out of their daily “busy-ness” and begin engaging with one another in a fun, shared way. Transitioning from high energy to calm, parents and children then practiced grounding meditation and belly-breathing techniques, allowing them to physically and emotionally align their rhythms. This quiet moment together set the stage for the final activity: co-creating Family Heart Maps. Through drawings and shared stories of laughter and special memories, families mapped out the unique love that makes their relationships special, leaving the session with a deeper sense of connection and shared joy.
Altogether, the morning created a balanced and meaningful experience, reflecting the PYP approach of nurturing the whole child through creativity, expression, and care.
