AHS - Director Welcome - English

Dear Parents, Students, and Faculty

As we begin our fourth academic year, I enthusiastically welcome back all of our students and their parents, our dedicated staff, and all new members of the American High School community. As this is my first year, I am excited to be working collaboratively with so many highly talented, experienced, and exceptional colleagues for the future of our students.

This past year has brought numerous improvements to the American High School Experience. The most significant of these included our first graduation class of 13 students who were accepted to 44 of the finest universities in the world that included the American University of Rome, George Washington University, Washington, DC, and the University of California, Los Angeles. Also, close to 50% of our students took the AP exams in May and 15 students were recognized as AP scholars and several were also recognized as AP Scholars with Distinction. We are very proud of them! Also, two participants in the program traveled to the United States this August and are already several weeks into the academic term at our sister school in Washington, Pennsylvania.

As we begin the new academic year the American High School is thrilled to welcome 24 new students, constituting a 55% increase in enrollment from last year. For the second year we have a full grade 8 through 12 and look forward to the excitement and challenges that come with the increase in our student body. This year we will improve upon the many systems and practices put in place last year, make strides towards our long-term goals, and further develop our curricula at all levels. Most importantly, we will continue to fine tune our students interest in higher education for their future endeavors.

It is an honor to be the Director of the American High School at the European School. Our committed staff, exceptional students, and tight-knit community create a supportive and nurturing learning environment that sets us apart. I look forward to working with all of you as we enter this new academic year.

Sincerely yours,
Joseph M. Blake
