Welcome to the American School of Advanced Studies.

Choosing a school is one of the most consequential decisions a family makes. It shapes not only where young people study, but who they become, and we are glad you are considering ASAS at the European School.

Now in its thirteenth year, ASAS offers an American education of real ambition. Students follow a United States high school diploma and the Advanced Placement programme – a course of study recognised by the world’s leading universities and designed to stretch able, motivated young people, and those who qualify earn the AP Capstone Diploma awarded by the College Board. Alongside it we honour the Georgian national curriculum, so that our graduates leave fluent in two educational traditions: at home in the world, and never at a distance from where they studied.

That ambition is held to international standards. ASAS has recently been re-accredited through Cognia, and the wider European School completed its re-accreditation by the Council of International Schools in 2025 – recognition of a commitment to continuous improvement.

We are, by design, a small school. From Grades 6 to 12 we remain no larger than we need to be, because advanced study is best attempted where no one is anonymous. Here every student is known: their strengths understood, their ambitions taken seriously, their setbacks met early and with care.

The results speak quietly for themselves. Each year a growing number of our students receive the United States President’s Award for Educational Progress and the Award for Academic Excellence, and our graduates are offered places and scholarships by universities of their choosing around the world — supported, individually and from early on, by our University and Career Counselling Office.

Much of what forms a young person happens alongside the timetable rather than within it. Our students travel, compete internationally, serve their community, learn from visiting speakers, and take part in the Sabado Leadership Academy, often with teachers and families beside them, in the shared life of the school.

What we ask of young people is genuine effort, genuine curiosity, and genuine integrity. What we offer in return is a rigorous foundation, teachers who expect a great deal and give more, and a school that prepares its students not merely for examinations but for the universities and the lives that follow.

Across some seventy countries I have had the privilege of studying, working, and building teams and institutions, I have come to a simple conviction: the finest education is at once demanding and humane. That is the education we intend for every young person in our care.
