“European School” IB Students at the “United Nations Youth Assembly”

UNThe first youth delegation from Georgia, together with 100 other youth delegations from all over the world, will participate in the annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations, 2013.

25 young delegates, 13 of which are the European school students, will take part in the Executive session of the Youth Assembly at the United Nations. Delegations will participate in the plenary sessions, workshops, and round table discussions of the UN.

The goals of the Assembly are to provide access to and information about the work, success and current challenges of the United Nations, and to promote increased young leaders participation in the UN programs.

The Youth Assembly, which is held in the same format as the real Assembly of the United Nations, allows young leaders, through dialogue, to reach a greater understanding of the complex nature of international relations, creative activism and diplomacy.

The main issue of the Youth Assembly at the United Nations, 2013 is Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Delegations will present the problems of their countries. The Georgian delegation will present the refugee problems and the ways of improving and solving them.

Our delegation will try to gain moral and financial support from some sponsors to continue working on refugee problems after arriving from the USA.

Aside from the official part of the Assembly, the students will meet the Georgian diplomatic representatives in the Unites States. They will also have opportunity to go sightseeing and visit many interesting places in New-York.

The delegates for the Assembly were carefully chosen by the contest. Several sponsors of the Assembly cover almost 60% of the expanses. The rest are covered by the delegates themselves. The main sponsor of the Assembly is United Nations Mission in Iraq. The other sponsors are Friendship Ambassadors, UN Head Office and other international organizations.

The delegations will leave for the USA on February 28, 2013 and arrive on February 4. 2014
