European School Student Presents Research at an International Conference
We are proud to share that Elene Khurdiani, a Grade 12 student of the European School’s IB Programme, participated in the European Conference on Ethics and Integrity in Academia (ECEIA 2026), a major international conference held in Batumi.
Held on 14–16 September, the conference brought together scholars and professionals from around the world working in the fields of academic ethics and integrity. The event was organised by the European Network for Academic Integrity (ENAI) in collaboration with Ilia State University. The conference programme featured research presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and poster sessions, providing an opportunity for participants to share research, experience, and ideas on advancing academic integrity and research ethics.
As part of the conference, Elene presented her research project in a poster presentation. Her project is entitled:
“Learning Integrity From Within: A Student-Led Action Research Approach to Understanding Plagiarism in Secondary Education.”
Elene conducted the research as part of her IB Personal Project. Her study explores the issue of plagiarism in secondary education, with a particular focus on raising awareness of academic integrity among young people, encouraging students to reflect on its importance, and fostering a culture of academic responsibility.
For Elene, participating in the conference was a valuable opportunity to share her research with members of the international academic community and to engage with researchers and students from different countries who came together to discuss important issues related to academic ethics and integrity.
We are particularly proud of Elene’s achievement, which reflects her curiosity, dedication, and commitment to independent research. The opportunity for one of our students to present her own research at an international conference while still at school is a meaningful reflection of the educational values we strive to foster at the European School — encouraging our students not only to acquire knowledge, but also to explore questions independently, develop new ideas, and share their work with a wider community.
