Human Rights Day in PYP: Inspiring Visit from UN Human Rights Lawyer Besarion Bokhashvili

On December 11, our school had the honour of hosting an exceptional guest speaker, Besarion Bokhashvili, a distinguished human rights lawyer with over 20 years of experience. Mr. Bokhashvili currently works at the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN OHCHR) in the South Caucasus, where he continues his commitment to protecting and promoting human rights.

Students from Grade 5 and Class 1C gathered in the Main Hall for a one-hour presentation that left a strong impression on our community. Mr. Bokhashvili delivered a clear and engaging talk on the importance of human rights, why they matter in our daily lives, and how they help build fair and respectful societies. He also introduced students to the history of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, explaining its purpose and lasting impact on the modern world.

Despite the complexity of the topic, he communicated in an accessible and compelling way that resonated with all learners. Students listened attentively, asked thoughtful questions, and showed genuine curiosity about global issues and their own role in promoting fairness and equality.

The session encouraged students to reflect on their responsibilities as young global citizens, and many shared how inspired they felt after the talk.

Overall, the visit was a memorable experience for our PYP community. We are deeply grateful to Mr. Bokhashvili for sharing his expertise and passion with our students, leaving them motivated to think critically, act kindly, and contribute positively to the world around them.
