Starting 2026–2027 Together: A PYP Celebration of Learning and Community
The European School PYP community came together for a special Primary Years Programme (PYP) assembly, led by the Head of PYP/PYP Coordinator, to celebrate two important milestones — the unveiling of our new school logo and 20 years of European School — while revisiting the key elements that shape learning across the PYP.
A particularly special moment was welcoming our Grade 1 students to their very first PYP assembly. As the youngest members of our PYP community, they had the opportunity to experience an assembly alongside students from across the programme, becoming part of the shared traditions, values, and sense of community that make the PYP special. It was a wonderful way to begin their PYP journey and remind all students that they are part of a larger learning community.
Students were also reminded of the IB Mission and the importance of becoming caring, knowledgeable, and open-minded learners who contribute positively to the world around them. The assembly also introduced our brand-new school anthem, celebrating our identity as thinkers, leaders, and lifelong learners. Adding a special touch to the celebration, our Grade 5 student Vera performed our beloved PYP anthem, written by our very own PYP teachers.
A highlight of the celebration was the reveal of the new European School logo, marking an exciting new chapter in our school’s identity while celebrating our 20-year journey.
Throughout the assembly, students revisited key PYP elements that are part of their everyday learning, including the Learner Profile, Key Concepts, Approaches to Learning (ATL) Skills, Action, and Student Agency. Students were encouraged to connect these elements to real-life situations and reflect on how they guide their learning and growth.
Another highlight was Grade 4 student Mariam’s presentation of her Book Club initiative. Taking the lead from the very beginning, Mariam independently developed the idea, prepared a presentation and posters, and introduced the Book Club to her fellow Grade 4 students. She also announced the sign-up opportunity and invited her peers to take part. Her initiative was a wonderful example of student agency in action, demonstrating how students can take ownership of their ideas, turn them into meaningful action, and inspire others within their community.
Woven throughout the assembly were fun “brain break” activities, including Rainstorm Hands and Shake & Freeze, which kept students energized and engaged. Students were also reminded of assembly expectations, respect for others, and safety in the corridors.
The assembly closed with information about the upcoming PYP Student Council elections, encouraging students to think about how they can contribute to making the PYP community an even better place through creativity, reliability, and teamwork — all guided by our simple rule: Love, Laugh, Learn.
It was a joyful and meaningful morning that brought the PYP community together to celebrate our shared identity, student voice, and continued commitment to inquiry-based, values-driven learning.
