Meeting with Ambassador of Georgia to the Hellenic Republic
01 Dec 2018On November 30, Ambassador of Georgia to the Hellenic Republic Ioseb Nanobashvili met with European School pupils from Georgian Program, who visited Athens to conduct a conference and various presentations. Students inquired into Georgia-Greece’s and Georgia-Serbia’s bilateral relations and received information about the Georgian community in Greece. Pupils asked questions about foreign affairs and foreign policy of Georgia. Our pupils actively and successfully participate in the cultural festival "Golden Fleece", which is held with the support of the Embassy of Greece in Georgia, National Archives of Georgia and Institute of Classical Philology, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
Charity Event to Help the Library of Akhtakli Village
22 Nov 2018Our Georgian Program students from 10th and 12th grades and their head teachers decided to organize a charity event in order to help a school in need of creating a library and to supply it with a collection of books. Books and stationery goods were being collected throughout a week and we were happy to see that the whole school got involved in the event. Georgia has several regions that are populated with minorities and we decided to help a school from these regions.
Summative Assessment of Transdisciplinary Themes
21 Nov 2018The importance of the disciplines is well-acknowledged, but disciplines alone are not enough. Students need to learn the concepts and skills that transcend the disciplines and must be able to put their knowledge into practice. This was the main purpose of summative assessment of transdisciplinary themes for our Georgian Program. Pupils from all the four classes held an exhibition of their works, showcasing the transdisciplinary skills acquired while learning unit topics. In addition, students discussed activities that have been carried out by them within this learning process.
Festival "Golden Fleece"
16 Nov 2018On November 15, European School participated in the cultural festival "Golden Fleece", dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. Within the festival, students from Grade 3A performed a drama act "Apple of Discord", which was based on the well-known Greek Myth. "Golden Fleece" was held with the support of the Embassy of Greece in Georgia, National Archives of Georgia and Institute of Classical Philology, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
Inventor of the first 3D Printed Qvevri at our FabLab
15 Nov 2018The European School FabLab hosted its first FAB-X Talk with the invited guest David Mizandari, co-founder of the project Qvevri XYZ. Qvevri XYZ is first ever 3D printed Qvevri. Having combined elements of the traditional Qvevri making process and modern technologies, David and his Team improved its structure and quality, yet kept all the unique characteristics. At the event, David Mizandari shared how they turned the original idea into this invention and discussed the principles of creating a 3D printed clay pitcher.
Chocolate Making Masterclass at "Chocolaterie Artisan"
10 Nov 2018On Saturday, November 10, our Grade 1B students from the Georgian Program attended a masterclass at Chocolaterie Artisan. Children inquired into information about the history of chocolate creation and learned more about different types of chocolates. They watched how the professional chocolatier melted, molded and stuffed chocolate with various fillings. In the end, students ate freshly made candies, handcrafted in front of them and drank hot chocolate. Our first graders enjoyed the time spent at Chocolaterie and went home loaded with excitement and delicious sweets.
Autumn Colors of the Botanical Garden
09 Nov 2018Our students from Georgian Program Grade 2a took a stroll in the lovely surroundings of the Tbilisi Botanical Garden and enjoyed the beauty of autumn nature. Their art teacher, Lana Barabadze, gave her pupils a short introduction to Land art. Afterward, within the theme of "Family", children used plants and flowers to create a composition of a house.
Iveri Chelidze Football Tournament Final
09 Nov 2018Iveri Chelidze football tournament which was held at the European School in the loving memory of our former student Iveri Chelidze has come to an end. The teams competed in three different age groups from grade 4 to grade 12. The first category final match was between PYP grade 5 B and MYP grade 6 students, the second category final match was between MYP grade 8 and AHS grade 9 students, while the third category final match was between AHS grade 11 and AHS grade 12 students. The winners of the tournament are MYP grade 6, MYP grade 8 and AHS grade 12 in the given order. Along with the winning team members, other students were also awarded in different categories: best player, best goalkeeper, and top scorer. The participants of the tournament were awarded by the academic director of The European School, Ms. Sophio Bazadze and Mr. Iveri Chelidze, who traditionally attends the championship each year. It is to be noted that the third category winners, AHS grade 12 class students are Iviko’s former classmates and because of that, this victory had a special meaning for them.
Field Trip to Social Enterprise "Babale"
08 Nov 2018On Friday, November 7, our Grade 1G students from the Georgian Program went on a field trip to the social enterprise "Babale". Children inquired into information about colors, created their own paints and used them along with some ornaments to decorate creative wooden objects. Our students were happy to proudly take home the handmade toys as the fruits of their labor.
