“Books for Everyone” Project Led By Student's Initiative

At the end of the academic year, the American High School sector of the European School held the closing event of the “Books for Everyone” project, a literacy and cultural initiative led by Nodar Chelidze in cooperation with the Literacy Promotion Society and Giorgi Kekelidze.

Throughout the year, the project promoted reading culture, appreciation of the Georgian language, and awareness of cultural heritage among both Georgian and international students. The initiative included several community outreach activities, bringing books and educational discussions to schools beyond Tbilisi. In December, project participants visited Tirdznisi Public School, where they met with students, discussed the importance of reading and education, and donated books collected through the project. This visit became an important step in strengthening the project’s social impact and encouraging a culture of literacy among young people.

One of the project’s most meaningful activities took place on March 14, Georgia’s Mother Language Day, when participants visited Variani, the birthplace of Yakob Gogebashvili, author of Dedaena and founder of the Georgian educational system. The visit included a tour of the Yakob Gogebashvili House Museum, discussions on the significance of the Georgian language and national identity, and a meeting with students of Variani Public School. The event concluded with the donation of books collected through the project, reinforcing its commitment to educational support and community engagement.

The final event brought together students, teachers, project partners, and special guests to reflect on the project’s achievements and impact. Participants shared their experiences, discussed the importance of literacy and cultural identity, and celebrated the values that guided the initiative throughout the year.

A special awards ceremony was held to recognize the dedication, leadership, and active involvement of students and contributors who played an important role in the project’s success. Certificates and special awards were presented to participants in recognition of their commitment to promoting reading, community engagement, and cultural awareness.

The closing ceremony marked not only the successful completion of the “Books for Everyone” project but also the continuation of its message: that books, language, and education remain powerful tools for personal growth, social responsibility, and the preservation of cultural identity. Through the leadership of Nodar Chelidze and the collective efforts of the school community, the project left a lasting impact and inspired students to remain lifelong advocates of reading, learning, and civic engagement.
