Assembly
On September 29, IB students from Grades 11 and 12 had the opportunity to take part in an engaging guest speaker session connected to their Global Politics studies.
Our guest speaker was George Melashvili, a political analyst, lecturer, author, and Founder and President of the Europe-Georgia Institute. He also teaches International Relations at the Free University of Tbilisi and works on topics including Georgia’s European future, international relations, propaganda, and disinformation.
The discussion explored Georgia’s European path, why it matters, and the role young people can play, as well as how propaganda and disinformation work, how they can influence public opinion, and how we can recognize and avoid being misled by them.
The presentation was highly engaging, and students actively participated throughout the session. They demonstrated strong subject knowledge, contributed thoughtfully to the discussion, and asked meaningful and relevant questions.
The event provided students with a valuable opportunity to connect their Global Politics classroom learning with real-world political issues and develop their critical thinking and informed engagement. It was also a great CAS experience, encouraging students to engage with important issues affecting their society and the wider world.
