Inspiring Young Readers: Literacy Week in the PYP

As part of the celebration of World Book Day, students took part in a week of Literacy Days filled with engaging and meaningful activities. The week began with a book fair featuring English books, where students had the opportunity to explore a variety of titles and purchase books for their home libraries.

This was followed by a special assembly with Natalie Panishvili, who read one of her own books to Grades 1–2 students. The students actively participated in interactive activities and even created their own stories inspired by the session. At the same time, Grades 4–5 welcomed a guest speaker, a Cambridge University student specializing in English literature, who shared her academic journey and childhood favorite books.

To conclude the week, students celebrated Book Character Day by dressing up as their favorite literary characters, bringing stories to life in a creative and joyful way. Throughout the entire week, students and teachers also took part in the “Drop Everything and Read” initiative, where the sound of a bell signaled everyone to pause their activities and enjoy reading a book of their choice, which they participated in with great enthusiasm. Overall, the Literacy Days provided students with rich opportunities to develop a love of reading and celebrate books in diverse and engaging ways.
