Global Citizenship and Ethics Symposium for Global Ethics Day 2024

#GlobalEthicsDay #EthicsEmpowered

On October 15, 2024, as part of Global Ethics Day 2024, the Global Citizenship and Ethics Symposium, titled “Together for Tomorrow: Exploring Global Ethics Through Student Perspectives,” was held for IB DP/CP students at the European School. Established by the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, Global Ethics Day empowers individuals and organizations worldwide to engage with ethics as a means to improve lives and strengthen communities.

This year’s symposium addressed real-world ethical dilemmas, focusing on critical themes such as sustainability, agriculture, and the fast fashion industry. IB DP students presented thoughtful research and ideas, delving into pressing questions such as balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability, and ensuring transparency and accountability within the fast fashion industry.

For our IB DP/CP students, the symposium provided an invaluable opportunity to develop essential skills for CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) and Service Learning (SL), fostering critical and ethical thinking in the face of global challenges. Their participation not only contributed to meaningful ethical discussions but also helped shape a vision for a more sustainable and equitable future.

We extend our gratitude to the students for their dedication and insightful presentations. Their engagement reflects and exemplifies the school’s core values of leading through innovation, pursuing excellence, growing by learning, and fostering global citizenship—values that are central to this year’s school motto: “Embracing the Journey Ahead! Citius! Altius! Fortius!” Together, we continue to build a more ethical and promising future.
