Peer-learning Skype lesson in the European Kindergarten

On November 6, European kindergarten children had very interesting peer-learning experience with Miras International Kindergarten in Almaty Kazakhstan. We thought it was a great idea connecting our kids to extend their inquiry abroad through skype to integrate global citizenship. The objective of this networking is to develop children’s international-mindedness and become global citizens which is related to the current inquiry theme “WHO WE ARE” which focuses on building good relationships with others. Kids introduced themselves, sang some songs and share their ideas. They really enjoyed it!

Election Debates

On November 5, the candidates for the European School Student Parliament Chairperson debated at the Main Conference Hall, where they discussed their visions for Student Parliament next year. After taking few minutes for their opening statements and presenting programs, the candidates took turns answering each question and discussed about the issues they felt were most important. They spoke about why they decided to run in this election, the changes they wanted to make at the European School.

Scary Addams Family Party Guests

This year, the ES Halloween party was hosted by Gomez and Morticia from the Addams Family. Their children-Wednesday and Pugsley kept guests entertained in scary Halloween games. Students dressed in Halloween themed costumes joined the party with great enthusiasm. Various activities were planned to entertain guests: costume parade, musical performances, fun games and nitrogen show with glowing pumpkins. The whole school was engaged in decorating the schoolyard and hallways.

Happy Halloween

Halloween’s Day was celebrated on the 31st of October filled with a fun filled exciting costume parade as well as different spooky games in the PYP department. There were very happy superheroes, witches, ghosts, scary clowns and other interesting characters walking around. Excited faces were seen everywhere as children played, danced and posed for photographs.

Self-management

Today we had a presentation on the topic “Self-Management” at the European Kindergarten. The children were happy to present their work to family members and talk about the past topic.

MYP Assembly

During this week's MYP Assembly, we shared some important updates and showcased the talents that reside within our student community. On 22nd November, there will be 3-way parent-student-teacher conferences in the Main Hall. More details to be shared via Managebac. We also had presentations from the Student Parliament candidates who shared their vision and strategy on the difference they could make to the European School. There was also a brief presentation about the MUN Conference in London which we encourage students to participate in to develop their analytical and leadership skills.

Typing Race for PYP students

Typing remains a fundamental skill, and it is one of the most important computer skills student need to learn. PYP students had a challenge “Typing Race” between classes during ICT and Computer Science lessons. The main goal of this challenge was developing typing skills. During two weeks students were practicing typing using the special web-site. During the first level we found out three winners in each grade who were typing faster than others. The next level was between grade levels. All finalists got certificates and the winners got badges for their achievements.

Trip to Old Tbilisi

On 17 October, our 10th grade when for an afternoon trip around Old Tbilisi – with some sightseeing in Abanotubani and the surrounding area. The weather was beautiful, and the students also made a visit to Metekhi Church as the field trip was related to their current studies into the life and martyrdom of St. Abo of Tbilisi. They walked around the area that the Saint himself used to walk around. They even explored the newly opened Ethnographic Museum near Metekhi Bridge where articles from Tbilisi's 2,000+ year history have been unearthed. The excavations revealed a bath house from the 2nd Century (!) This means that local residents were enjoying Tbilisi’s wonderful natural sulfur springs a full 3 centuries before the great Vakhtang Gorgasali discovered the springs (according to legend) and founded the city officially. The students explored some of the sites that they have been reading about in their lessons and learned many new facts about the area and Tbilisi’s history.

Trip to Tao-klarjeti

American High School's 9th graders went on a four-day trip abroad to historic Tao-Klarjeti. They left early in the morning Friday the 18th and returned on Monday. They saw a large number of sites and visited many places, including: Mere Fortress, Kajeti Fortress, Ardahan. Savshveti, Satle Fortress, Tbeti, Doliskana, Artvin, Artanuji, Devil's Canyon, Akhiza Fortress, Chorokhi river gorge, Iusupel, Otkhta Eklesia, Kavkasidzes' Fortress, Vezhangeti Fortress, Parkhali, Ishkhani, Oshki, Khakhuli, Tortumi Waterfall and fortress, and Bana church. They had a great trip, and all returned home with great memories of this wonderful area.
