PYP Grade 5 Students Explore Migration Through Personal Stories and Cultural Exchange
As a culmination of the transdisciplinary theme Where we are in place and time, PYP Grade 5 students explored the concept of migration by researching and sharing personal or historical migration stories. Through this inquiry, students deepened their understanding of the reasons people migrate, the challenges they face, and the impact of migration on individuals and communities.
To bring the learning experience to life, students presented their findings in creative ways, using storytelling, digital slides, and visual displays. Their presentations highlighted connections between past and present migration patterns, fostering a sense of empathy and global awareness.
Parents played an essential role in this learning journey by sharing their own migration experiences and contributing traditional dishes from their cultural backgrounds. This interactive and engaging event strengthened the school community, allowing students to see firsthand how migration shapes cultural identity and enriches societies.
The summative experience concluded with a reflective discussion, where students shared their key takeaways, emphasizing the importance of understanding migration as an ongoing global phenomenon. Through this inquiry, students not only developed research and communication skills but also gained a deeper appreciation for diversity and intercultural understanding.
