Science Show Week in PYP

This year’s Science Week in the Primary Years Programme was a great success, bringing together PYP classes who participated in science shows throughout the entire week under the guidance of the PYP Student Engagement Coordinator. From Monday to Friday, our learning spaces were transformed into lively mini-laboratories where curiosity led the way and students explored the wonders of science through engaging demonstrations and hands-on experiments. Throughout the week, students not only observed fascinating scientific phenomena but also took active roles in conducting simple experiments themselves. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as children predicted outcomes, asked thoughtful questions, and reflected on what they learned. This interactive approach helped students strengthen their inquiry skills, deepen their understanding of scientific concepts, and experience the joy of discovery in a meaningful way.

A special highlight of the week was prepared for our Grade 3 students, who are currently exploring the transdisciplinary theme “Where We Are in Place and Time” connected to ancient civilizations. As an extension of their learning, all Grade 3 classes participated in an additional workshop dedicated to papyrus making, linked to their exploration of Ancient Egypt. During this hands-on activity, students learned about the historical importance of papyrus, discovered how ancient Egyptians used it for communication, and created their very own papyrus sheets. This workshop beautifully connected science with history, allowing students to observe real-life applications of plant fibers, water absorption, and preservation techniques. Science Show Week not only strengthened students’ knowledge but also inspired them to look at the world around them with curiosity and confidence. We are proud of the engagement, enthusiasm, and teamwork demonstrated by every class.
