All About Me Lapbook Project

As we are building this community of learners, we want our students to have a greater understanding of who they are as learners and to recognize and appreciate our diversity, so they can assume their responsibilities and create a welcoming community. 1B students identified their family members by name and their relation to them, that families come from different countries and celebrate different things. That friends can help each other and how to be good friends. Our lessons’ focus was to identify and discuss the roles and responsibilities of family members and friends. During the inquiry journey in the unit Who We Are 1B, students developed an understanding of their personal and cultural identities. They developed communication skills by expressing themselves, collaborating, and listening carefully to each other. They showed open-mindedness by understanding that people are different and that they might have friends different from them. That’s why they have to be open-minded and respectful towards each other. They learn that making mistakes leads to a deeper understanding. During the summative assessment of the unit, students expressed themselves by describing their families, interests, and abilities through drawing and presenting their project in front of the class! They showed their enthusiasm and became more confident in themselves. 1B Students created an “All about myself” lap book where they wrote information about their age, personality, family, likes, and dislikes. They presented their work in front of the class and made a speech!
