Robotics Class at Technopark

David Nozadze, the European School Robotics teacher organized an off-campus Robotics class at Technopark for Georgian Program grade 5 students. The class was dynamic and interesting as students got themselves acquainted with the LittleBits electronics kit. Having familiarized themselves with the basics of electronics, they started creating electronic devices on their own. They also toured around Technopark and observed 3D printers and high-tech equipment. The European School ICT department is planning on conducting such innovative off-campus classes in the future.

The European School Students Succeed in Karate

On March 24-25, 2018, Georgian Karate Federation hosted the “Open Tbilisi 2018” Karate championship. Natia Tutberidze and Ana Darchiashvili, American High School grade 10 students successfully participated in the championship. Natia Tutberidze earned a gold medal in the 14-15-year-old age category.

Children Love Science

Young children are natural scientists: they ask questions, observe and generally, are curious about the world around them. It’s always fun for them to attend science lessons in upper grades. On March 21, students from grade 3 enjoyed Physics experiments conducted by 8-9 graders.

“Signs & Symbols”

In the unit of inquiry “Signs & Symbols” PYP grade 4 students learned that all written languages comprise of some form of signs and symbols. Every subject they study contains some kind of signs or symbols. This was the theme covered during our assembly. Students showed the evolution of signs and symbols starting from the Stone Age followed by Sumerians cuneiform, Egyptian and Chinese hieroglyphics…They used numbers and music notes as symbols, and showed colors in sign language. As the assembly was coinciding with International Theatre Week, students put forward their best efforts in putting together an amazing performance as Stone Age people, dancing and singing. We used ultra violet lights to show music notes as symbols, which was a big surprise for the audience. Our assembly played an important role in raising students’ enthusiasm for participating and gaining confidence in future activities.

Literary Meeting with Giorgi Macharashvili

The European School hosted the Literature Day organized by a young writer and critic, Giorgi Macharashvili, Georgian Program grade 12 student. Giorgi delivered a talk about Lost Generation American writers who experienced WWI. Giorgi discussed the novels of Ernest Hemingway, Francis Scott Fitzgerald, etc., which often expressed the futility of time in their writings. The meeting proved to be very interesting, inspiring and informative for students and adults alike.

Down Syndrome Day in Diploma Programme

Diploma Programme students joined the celebration of World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, 2018. By making presentations about the syndrome and its causes, telling stories about celebrities with this disease, challenges that parents of kids with Down Syndrom face in their daily lives, Moezzi Mohamadamin, Natia Melkadze, Mia Bajat and Giorgi Zirakadze, dressed in t-shirts with the Down Syndrome logo, raised the awareness about this syndrome in the school community.

Profession of Firefighters

PYP Grade 1 covered all the lines of inquiry for the Transportation Unit and summarized it by learning about service vehicles and fire safety: They now know the basic fire safety rules, they have a fire safety plan and know how to stop, drop and roll. Students learned about the crucial and heroic profession of firefighters and were so excited to visit the fire station museum on the 22nd of March, meet real fire fighters and explore the fire truck.

Another Success Story of Robotics Club Students

On March 1, 2018, Alexander Kartveli Auditorium Opening Ceremony took place at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia. The European School Robotics Club students, Zaal Chumburidze and Ksenia Kochuraite joined the event and presented their A-10 Thunderbolt II models at the National Library. The American ambassador, Ian Kelly and Lela Kartvelishvili, the president of the Alexander Kartveli Association, together with the invited guests, welcomed our students’ creations.

The European School Students Visit Marjanishvili Theatre

Grade 3-4 students visited the museum of Marjanishvili Theatre on March 21, 2018. They got to see the exhibited works of Petre Otskheli, stage costumes and dressing rooms. Students learned more about performing arts and how various performances are created. In the end, they got a chance to try on stage costumes.
