The European School Team-the Finalist of Millennium Innovations Award

Millennium Innovations Award encourages innovative ideas and project implementation in STEM fields and technologies among youth. In the third, final round of the competition the European School team will participate among 12 teams from different regions of Georgia. Millennium Innovations Awards finals will be held in Tbilisi, April 2018. The first prize winner will participate in NASA Space Center University Study Program in the U.S.

Visit to the Book Museum

On March 1st, the European School students from grades 3-4 visited the National Library and the Book Museum. Giorgi Kekelidze-the General Director of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia hosted his students and offered them a very interesting tour. The famous writer even prepared gifts for the students- he gave them his fairy tale books. The students were full of emotions and impressions at the end of the day.

PYP Grade 1B Trip to the Tbilisi International Airport

PYP Grade 1B visited the Tbilisi International Airport. Year 1 is currently covering the unit called ‘transportation’. The kids had an amazing opportunity to see the check-in process and enter the waiting area. Before the passengers got on board, the students boarded the plane and were greeted by the captain. Children then watched how the passengers boarded the plane and wished everyone a safe flight. Our first graders enjoyed snacks and relaxed in the VIP lounge at the end of the trip. Throughout the whole trip students were accompanied by the members of the Turkish Airlines staff and received a lot of useful information that has a direct connection to our current transdisciplinary theme, unit and lines of inquiry.

Celebration of Mother's Day at the European Kindergarten

On March, 2nd we celebrated Mother's Day at the European Kindergarten. A beautiful banner was waiting for our nice moms to take photos with their kids. Children created many crafts, made cookies and chocolate mousse for their moms. It was a joyful day in our kindergarten.

PYP Grade 5 students on a Field Trip

Within the framework of the unit about Migration PYP grade 5 s went on a field trip to the National Gallery to see Michelangelo’s original drawings. They prepared themselves for the field trip by learning Michelangelo’s biography. Students have imitated the process of painting of the Sistine chapel by lying on their backs and painting above their heads. They have also learned how migration affected artist’s life and the style of their artworks. On the trip we had a tour guide who talked about Michelangelo and his work. Apart from viewing Michelangelo’s 6 drawing’s students had an opportunity to play a puzzle, where they could arrange the scenes from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. After the trip students were asked to share their impressions and demonstrate the new knowledge they have acquired.

Classical Music Festival

The European School annual Classical Music Festival promotes classical music among students. On February 22-28 the festival was held for the fourth time. Many interesting events took place throughout the festival, but the most impressive concert was offered to the audience in the final round. Invited guests, the vocalist Liana Chivadze, the pianists Christina and Regina performed alongside with the school students. Certificates of participation and memorable gifts were presented to the participants by the Head of Jury, the composer Rusudan Sebiskveradze. The winners of the nominations: Exceptional Musical Talent, Exceptional Musical Technique, Exceptional Academic Performance, Judge’s Choice are Temur Tvauri(G6), Sisi (PYP G5), Nutsa Mestvirishvili(G5) and Luka Shatberashvili(DP G11).

PYP Grade 4 students visited National Museum of Georgia

In line with our Unit of Inquiry “Signs & Symbols” PYP 4th grade teachers and students visited the Simon Janashia National Museum of Georgia after covering the topic ‘Stone age’. The Museum represents a scientific-educational institution that preserves and exhibits a unique collection of natural and human history of the country, starting from animal remains dated back 40 million years. The students were impressed learning about prehistoric human remains found in Dmanisi, as this discovery has changed the whole theory of human evolution. Our students found the large collection of treasures - gold and silver artifacts and jewelry from different historical periods to be very interesting. Our visit to the Museum played a very important role in deepening students’ knowledge related to their unit of inquiry.

American High School World History and AP World History Classes Explore the Roman Treasures of the Georgian National Museum

On Tuesday, February 13, American High School Grades 8, 9, 11, and 12 students in World History and AP World History classes toured the Georgian National Museum with Mr. Joseph Blake and Dr. Natia Pipia. Dr. Pipia, a noted author of a scholarly published work regarding the numastic treasures of Georgia and history professor at Tbilisi State University, explained the significance of many of the ancient Roman republic and empire treasures on display, followed by a tour of the Soviet Occupation exhibition on permanent display. Exploratory understanding and comprehension of Georgia’s place and impact via the ancient Silk Road at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and the world as a whole is essential for understanding the past, present, and future.
