Exhibition
02 May 2019PYP students continued investigations and approached the Exhibition 2018-2019 with another huge step – creating the logo. Each exhibition group and any 5th graders had a chance to create a logo for the Exhibition. The PYP community: 4th graders, PYP principal, security and our housekeepers helped us to choose the best one. According to our team the best logo was Alexandra Chuprina’s, where she has demonstrated the unity and international mindedness of our students. Another important event that happened this week was the trip to Vake Park - our students raised the awareness about their exhibition projects. They have distributed the flyers, interviewed people and filled in the surveys. The feedback received from the people was extremely positive and almost every interviewee mentioned how proud they were about the actions done by PYP students. The 4th graders Bilge Ucar and Meryem Huseynova were very supportive while the trip as their transdisciplinary theme was ‘How We Organize Ourselves’ and they have been working on the different types advertisements for 5 weeks, and knew the purpose of the advertisements so they helped to promote our school and the exhibition projects.
DP Project Presentations
01 May 2019DP students held a presentation of their CAS projects. Creativity and Service are integral parts of these projects. DP students focused on creating modern agricultural systems, organizing events for charity reasons, cleaning the environment, raising awareness about the importance of protecting the environment, supporting disabled people, decorating Tbilisi theaters and organizing European Parliament sessions for youth.
Students Visiting European Kindergarten
01 May 2019On April 24, PYP students visited the European Kindergarten and presented their own fairy tale book to children from two different groups. The young writers liked communicating with little kids and reading books in English. They gained important experience in this activity.
PYP Unit Assembly
26 Apr 2019PYP programme held an assembly in the Main Hall. Students from grade 2 finished transdisciplinary unit How the World Works and presented their projects at the assembly. Kids talked about the water cycle and states of water. They reminded the attendees about their responsibility in saving water and presented water-related problems through different videos. They held a charity campaign and collected money to support countries where kids have no access to clean drinking water. The goal of the projects was to save the environment and clean water.
Awarding of Certificates
22 Apr 2019Certificates of participation were awarded to the European School students who recently returned from Brussels after an official visit to the European Parliament, European Commission and other EU institutions. After signing the memorandum, the European School received a letter of recognition from the European Parliament, showing readiness to support ES students’ participation in cultural and educational exchange programs. After the awarding ceremony, presentations on various interesting topics, made by the awarded students in Brussels, were shown to the ES students’ body.
PYP library assistant
22 Apr 2019Merab Dzuliashvili, PYP 4a student became the PYP library assistant for one day. At that particular day, students worked on presentations about their transdisciplinary themes (grade 4 - How the World Works and grade 5 - Sharing the Planet). They were asked to cite the resources used while researching the topic. Together with Nino Ramishvili, the PYP librarian, Merab explained what is academic honesty, what is plagiarizing and reminded students how to cite resources. Students made another step to digital citizenship through this activity. “It was a really interesting experience, but it was hard helping 5th graders, and I really liked it”, - Merab Dzuliashvili.
Students in Mtatsminda Pantheon
22 Apr 2019PYP students spent two weeks on Mother Language project. Within the project, they worked in pairs and groups, searched the biographic information about Georgian writers, prepared presentations, learned poems and mastered in the art of reading aloud poetry. On April 16, the students visited the Mtatsminda Pantheon of Writers and Public Figures, where the children paid respect to their ancestors, put flowers on their graves, recited poems and finally visited Mama Daviti Church.
Georgian Language Day
16 Apr 2019Georgian Language teachers Lika Vekua and Eka Berdzenishvili presented a new book “33 Emotions” to 2nd-3rd graders at the library. The students learned about the diversity of letterforms, letter shapes, and alphabets. They also read quotes from famous authors about the Georgian alphabet.
Visit to Experimentorium
16 Apr 2019On April 12th, Grade 5a students visited the Experimentorium - Museum of Entertaining Science. This trip was planned to support the unit -Sharing the Planet, the ending unit followed by the PYP Exhibition. Students dived into the world of science and were able to visualize Physics laws. Students participated in the experiments with Nitrogen. They have tested different exhibits and activities: sitting on the nails and lifting a friend into the air, drawing on the sand, playing instruments in the music room and etc. Ecrin Yagmur: " It was fun, I had a great experience. When I grow up I want to be a scientist!" Meryem Meredova: " It was a very interesting trip. I have learned a lot of new things. It was full of fun activities. I loved observing and testing all the exhibits by myself. The Nitrogen show was great!"
