Typing Race for PYP students

Typing remains a fundamental skill, and it is one of the most important computer skills student need to learn. PYP students had a challenge “Typing Race” between classes during ICT and Computer Science lessons. The main goal of this challenge was developing typing skills. During two weeks students were practicing typing using the special web-site. During the first level we found out three winners in each grade who were typing faster than others. The next level was between grade levels. All finalists got certificates and the winners got badges for their achievements.

Trip to Old Tbilisi

On 17 October, our 10th grade when for an afternoon trip around Old Tbilisi – with some sightseeing in Abanotubani and the surrounding area. The weather was beautiful, and the students also made a visit to Metekhi Church as the field trip was related to their current studies into the life and martyrdom of St. Abo of Tbilisi. They walked around the area that the Saint himself used to walk around. They even explored the newly opened Ethnographic Museum near Metekhi Bridge where articles from Tbilisi's 2,000+ year history have been unearthed. The excavations revealed a bath house from the 2nd Century (!) This means that local residents were enjoying Tbilisi’s wonderful natural sulfur springs a full 3 centuries before the great Vakhtang Gorgasali discovered the springs (according to legend) and founded the city officially. The students explored some of the sites that they have been reading about in their lessons and learned many new facts about the area and Tbilisi’s history.

Trip to Tao-klarjeti

American High School's 9th graders went on a four-day trip abroad to historic Tao-Klarjeti. They left early in the morning Friday the 18th and returned on Monday. They saw a large number of sites and visited many places, including: Mere Fortress, Kajeti Fortress, Ardahan. Savshveti, Satle Fortress, Tbeti, Doliskana, Artvin, Artanuji, Devil's Canyon, Akhiza Fortress, Chorokhi river gorge, Iusupel, Otkhta Eklesia, Kavkasidzes' Fortress, Vezhangeti Fortress, Parkhali, Ishkhani, Oshki, Khakhuli, Tortumi Waterfall and fortress, and Bana church. They had a great trip, and all returned home with great memories of this wonderful area.

PYP Assembly - "We are a community of learners"

On October 21, our Primary Years Programme (PYP) held this year first PYP Assembly for Grades 1 to 5. The assembly was focused on the idea of being a community of learners Student Council members were introduced to the whole PYP. They talked about their understanding of IB Learner Profile attributes and had presented Learner Profile video. In addition, students were shared the idea of the appreciation of the Learner Profile attributes within PYP community. Every month each class will have an opportunity to nominate students who demonstrated a Learner Profile attribute and the photo of the student will be displayed on a Student Council display. At the end of the assembly students once again reviewed the safety evacuation procedures through watching a video made by Grade 5 A and 5 B. Assemblies of this kind will be a monthly occurrence at the PYP section. The assemblies will put an emphasis on promoting student participation in school life and situational learning, which are of great importance for our school community.

IB DP Grade 11 weekend event

IB Diploma Programme Grade 11 students and some teachers were in school on Saturday, 19 October, for a special Grade 11 weekend event. The aims of the event were further familiarisation with the Diploma Programme and team building. The day started at 9 a.m. with an ice-breaking activity led by Mr. David, our CAS Coordinator. Afterwards, Dr Brice gave a presentation on the benefits of the IBDP to raise students’ awareness of the vast array of opportunities in front of them, as IBDP students. Following an interactive session on the structure of the IBDP curriculum, students were taken through the components of internal and external assessment that they are expected to complete between now and May 2021.

The PYP students from grades 3a&3b competed in fun sports’ games. In a game with colored circles fastest students finished the round first and became the winners of the game. The PYP students enjoyed fun sports’ games and competed with great enthusiasm.

World Food Day

World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on 16 October in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945. The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with food security, including the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. To achieve #Zerohunger MYP students from the European School celebrated the event with a great joy and enthusiasm. MYP candidate for the head of students' parliament Ana-Maria Iakobidze organized the charity Food Fair which gave impetus to students to promote their national cuisines. With collected money students will by food supply for the family in need.

Out of Class Activities of the MYP Students

The MYP students from grades 6-7 visited the Botanical Garden and Gardenia Shevardnadze where they had a themed tour on Florals and Fauna and later, planted flowers. The MYP students from grade 7 visited the Arts Palace and attended the performance. They also learned how to create dolls. The students enjoyed out of classroom activities.

Fun Sport’s Activity

The activity was conducted at the school stadium, on a fresh air and had goal to promote healthy lifestyle. The PYP students enjoyed fun sports’ games and competed with great enthusiasm.
