An Interdisciplinary, Fact-Based Historical Courtroom Simulation
On November 12 and 19, the 10th graders of the American School of Advanced Studies held a student-led mock trial exploring the question: “Was Columbus a criminal?” Students stepped into a wide range of roles, including defense attorneys, prosecutors, the King and Queen of Spain, and Columbus himself.
The event was organized and brought to life by Ana Molodini, whose leadership ensured that many classmates were engaged through additional roles and responsibilities. Her initiative transformed the activity into a dynamic, interactive learning experience.
Events like this are highly valued and supported by the school, as they showcase students’ leadership, creativity, enthusiasm, and organizational skills. The mock trial not only deepened historical understanding but also encouraged collaboration, public speaking, and critical thinking—skills essential to lifelong learning.
