Classics Competition 2022

Ekaterine Gorgadze, AHS 11B grade student, became the winner of the Lytham St Annes Classical Association Classics Competition 2022, which was generously sponsored and supported by the Classical Association. Lytham St Annes Classical Association is the UK’s largest branch of the Classical Association. For the international competition, participants delivered their presentations in answer to the question:‘Who is your unsung hero from the ancient world?’ Ekaterine’s presentation was on the topic Neoptolemus. Her supervisor was Ms. Ekaterine Kobakhidze, AHS Classics teacher. Ekaterine Gorgadze shares the details of her path to success: “I’ve been a student at American High School for three years. During these years, our teacher Eka Kobakhidze has led us through the world of classical civilizations by introducing us to its mythology, literature, and philosophy. In 2021, my Latin and Georgian language teacher, Keti Gardapkhadze, shared information about an annual international Classics Competition held for students interested in these topics. That year, I researched the qualifications and requirements that the jury had and used the time to broaden my knowledge of classics and Latin language. All of this led me to become an international competition winner. To the greatest extent, this achievement is due to the support and endless opportunities provided by my school. Therefore, I want to thank the school contest jury (N. Tevzadze, I. Barbakadze, E. Kobakhidze, K. Gardapkhadze), who chose my speech for the international competition, among other interesting works. Winning the international competition has allowed me to bring honor not only to my school but, my country as well.”
