Self-Government Day at the European School

The European School organized Self-Government Day on May 11, 2018. Students assumed the role of a teacher for a day. They offered interesting classes, arranged flash mobs and started charity campaigns - with the money raised, they bought books and donated them to SOS Children’s Village Georgia.

Football Match at the European School

The European School soccer pitch hosted a warm up match between the European School alumni and the current grade 12 students. The match ended in a tie (1-1).

SDSU Georgia Rrepresentatives Visit the European School

The representatives of San Diego State University Georgia (SDSU Georgia) paid a visit to the European School. The guests toured around the school building, discussed partnership opportunities and expressed their willingness to further collaborate with the European School. Among the guests were Dr. Halil M. Guven, the Dean of SDSU, Dr. Lal Tummala, the former Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dr. Walter Oechel, the Dean of College of Sciences, and Dr. William Tong, the Chair of Chemistry Department. Being a hub of student invention and innovation, San Diego State University is one of the largest and most popular universities in California.

Cyber Olympiad “CyberCube 2018”

On May 7, 2018, around 150 students from leading universities and schools participated in the annual cyber olympiad - CyberCube 2018. Two teams were representing the European School. The first team brought together students from American High School and IB Programmes: Aleksandre Lomadze-Gabiani, AHS, grade 11, Giorgi Chakhnashvili, IB MYP grade 10, Giorgi Imnaishvili, AHS, grade 10. Last year, the boys finished eleventh among fifty competing teams. This year, however, they’ve improved their performance and finished eighth. The second team consisted of students from Georgian Program: Omar Shekiladze, grade 8, Aleksandre Tvaliashvili, grade 8, and Konstantine Chkhaidze, grade 7. Georgian Program joined CyberCube for the first time this year. Throughout the olympiad, our teachers, Davit Nozadze and Irakli Javakhishvili, mentored our teams.

Europe Day at the European School

Within the framework of Europe Days, the European School celebrated Europe Day on May 7, 2018. Our students organized an EU exhibition in the school’s courtyard, presenting national dishes, culture and traditions of EU member states. We were honored to host ambassadors of European countries and representatives of state institutions and agencies. Mikheil Janelidze, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, congratulated the guests, delivered a welcoming speech, discussed the importance of education and Georgia’s European integration prospects. It’s become a tradition to celebrate Europe day at the European School. Yesterday marked our eighth celebration of Europe day. As an international school, we’re encouraging our students to become globally-minded and capable international citizens and embrace the richness of a variety of cultures.

PYP Grade 3 Trip to Zoo

Our PYP third graders visited the Tbilisi Zoo, as part of their inquiring into the unit “Oceans, seas and rivers of Earth”, They have studied about all creatures that inhabit bodies of water. Our students had the opportunity to see with their own eyes different kinds of animals and fish. During the trip students were greeted by a tour guide who took the students to the Egzotarium where they were introduced to different species of fish, snakes, frogs and other living creatures that inhabit bodies of water. The tour guide explained and provided information about the zoo animals and answered students’ questions. As part of the trip, students also took a walk around the zoo and were introduced to the animals. They also had an opportunity to feed a camel, which turned out to be an amazing experience for our students.

The European School Marathon

The European School concluded the celebrations of the IB’s 50th anniversary with a marathon around Lisi Lake, on April 28, 2018. About 50 students from Georgian Program, American High School and IB Programmes participated in the race, running 2500 meters around the lake. The purpose of the marathon was to promote sports and healthy lifestyle within our school community.

Humanities Day at the European School

Within celebrations of the IB’s 50th anniversary, the European School organized Humanities Day on April 27, 2018. The day was filled with different activities, projects and extraordinary classes. Georgian Program Grade 10 students organized a project named “History Revived through Photography.” The students exhibited historical photographs, demonstrating how modern states were formed and developed over the course of history.

Within celebrations of the IB’s 50th anniversary, the European School organized Mathematics Day on April 26, 2018. The day was filled with different activities and extraordinary classes: “Real Life Problems Involving Percentages,” “Field Work in Mathematics,” “Summative Lesson Using Smart Technologies,” “Discovering Golden Numbers,” etc. All open lessons were research-based.
