Basketball Day at the European School

The European School gym hosted a basketball match between Georgian Program and American High School teams on April 17, 2018. Georgian Program beat the American High School 69:64. Irakli Kochiashvili and Luka Tsurtsumia became the players of the day, scoring 42 and 34 points, respectively.

Millennium Innovations Award

On April 13, 2018, the Millennium Innovations Award took place. The competition has been in place since 2014 and aims at encouraging teenagers to come up with innovative projects to pique their interest in STEM subjects. Twelve teams were selected for the final round of the Millennium Innovations Award, including the European School students – Zuka Kevanishvili, Giorgi Imnaishvili, Giorgi Chakhnashvili and Alexander Lomadze-Gabiani. The European School teachers, David Nozadze, - the member of the Scientific & Cyber Security Association, - and Maxim Iavich, - the President of the Scientific & Cyber Security Association, - mentored our students throughout the competition. Elizabeth Rood, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy, Mikheil Chkenkeli, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, and Mariam Jashi, the Chair of the Education, Science and Culture Committee of Parliament of Georgia, paid the contestants a visit.

American High School hosts Guest Speaker

“Russian-Georgian Relationships and Civil Activism in Georgia” On Monday, April 2, the American High School hosted noted political analyst and social activist Mr. Nikoloz Berulava who addressed the “Russian-Georgian Relationship and Civil Activism in Georgia” to students in the AP Comparative Government and Politics class and two World History classes. Mr. Berulava stressed the important role of each individual in society towards achieving the greater public good. He further emphasized that each citizen’s inaction serves as a tragedy for society as only individuals may improve it by their responsibility and action. The students in attendance discussed the topic and participated in several lively debates.

The European School Students Celebrate World Theatre Day

The European School students decided to surprise their peers and joined the celebration of the World Theatre Day. Grade 8B students staged sketches and skits based on the famous plays: "Trouble of Darispani" and "the Cherry Orchard." The entire student body, along with the teachers and parents, embraced and welcomed our students’ acting skills.

The “European School“ Students Visit Autism Center

The United Nations encourages member states to raise awareness about people with autism by celebrating World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, every year. The European School IB DP students decided to take action – they visited the Autism Center in Tbilisi, April 2, 2018. They talked to the beneficiaries of the center and helped them decorate the premises by planting flowers and trees in the garden.

Handmade Car Race at the European School

David Nozadze, the Robotics teacher of the European School, organized a handmade car competition for our students on April 2, 2018. Fourteen competing students from grade 1-12 made moving vehicles from recycled and re-used materials. The jury awarded one winner in each category. However, the Super Cup went to Saba Nodia, grade 2 student for creating the best handmade car.

Charity Movie Screening at the European School “Ekvtime: Man of God”

The European School hosted the screening of the movie “Ekvtime: Man of God” on April 4, 2018. The movie director, together with the film crew, attended the event. At the end, the audience got a chance to ask questions, speak to the director and the film crew, and state their viewpoints and ideas about the film. All the money raised will be donated to the film support fund.

Grade 6 Project “Greetings to Abkhazia!”

On April 3, 2018, Georgian Program grade 6 students presented their project “Greetings to Abkhazia!” The students conducted a research on important cultural heritage in Abkhazia and Abkhazian traditions. They shared their findings and a documentary film with the audience.
