US Embassy at the European School

On April 2, 2018, The European School had the honor to welcome the representatives of the US Embassy in Georgia – Elizabeth Rood, Deputy Chief of Mission, and Jenni Gunnoe, Community Liaison Office (CLO) coordinator. Sophie Nonikashvili, a junior from the American High School and the chairperson of the European School Student Parliament, and Aleksandre Lomadze-Gabiani, a senior from AHS, organized a tour of the school’s facilities for the guests.

An Open House at the European School

Admissions are now open for the 2018-2019 academic year at the European School. On March 31, 2018, our school hosted an Open House for parents and guests to provide them with relevant information regarding the school’s educational programs. Our Open House agenda helped the guests to get acquainted with the European School. They learnt about the school’s advantages, received information regarding educational programs, toured around the school building with our current students, talked to the program coordinators and attended demo lessons. Sophio Bazadze, the Academic Director of the European School, welcomed the guests and discussed the advantages that the school is offering to children who want to pursue their education at the European School.

The European School Students Visit Tbilisi Classical Gymnasium

On March 30, 2018, IB PYP grade 3-4 students visited Tbilisi Classical Gymnasium to share their tips on healthy lifestyle choices with their peers. Considering our students’ interest in healthy lifestyle, they’ve been invited to become the team members of famous Georgian TV program “Family Doctor.” Our students are dedicated to raising awareness on healthy lifestyle among their peers.

One Hour in the Theatre

Linking in with “International Theatre Day” our PYP students visited the Marjanishvili Theater. Students were able to observe what happens behind the scenes. They had the opportunity to try on different outfits such as dresses, hats and jackets. Also, they were able to see the rooms where the actors put on makeup and get ready for the performances. Students got acquainted with the history of theater, archive materials stored in the museum and unique old photo archives, storing works of famous artists Peter Otskheli, Elene Akhvlediani, David Kakabadze and other theater artists.

Tinatin Macharashvili Wins the Contest of French Institute in Georgia

Tinatin Macharashvili, the European School French teacher, came out on top in the contest organized by French Institute of Georgia and earned a scholarship to attend a two-week long qualification course at Université Francophonia, Nice, France. The course will focus on modern methods in foreign language learning and teaching. In addition, the course aims at developing intercultural skills which are the key elements of successful intercultural relations.

Robotics Class at Technopark

David Nozadze, the European School Robotics teacher organized an off-campus Robotics class at Technopark for Georgian Program grade 5 students. The class was dynamic and interesting as students got themselves acquainted with the LittleBits electronics kit. Having familiarized themselves with the basics of electronics, they started creating electronic devices on their own. They also toured around Technopark and observed 3D printers and high-tech equipment. The European School ICT department is planning on conducting such innovative off-campus classes in the future.

The European School Students Succeed in Karate

On March 24-25, 2018, Georgian Karate Federation hosted the “Open Tbilisi 2018” Karate championship. Natia Tutberidze and Ana Darchiashvili, American High School grade 10 students successfully participated in the championship. Natia Tutberidze earned a gold medal in the 14-15-year-old age category.

Children Love Science

Young children are natural scientists: they ask questions, observe and generally, are curious about the world around them. It’s always fun for them to attend science lessons in upper grades. On March 21, students from grade 3 enjoyed Physics experiments conducted by 8-9 graders.

“Signs & Symbols”

In the unit of inquiry “Signs & Symbols” PYP grade 4 students learned that all written languages comprise of some form of signs and symbols. Every subject they study contains some kind of signs or symbols. This was the theme covered during our assembly. Students showed the evolution of signs and symbols starting from the Stone Age followed by Sumerians cuneiform, Egyptian and Chinese hieroglyphics…They used numbers and music notes as symbols, and showed colors in sign language. As the assembly was coinciding with International Theatre Week, students put forward their best efforts in putting together an amazing performance as Stone Age people, dancing and singing. We used ultra violet lights to show music notes as symbols, which was a big surprise for the audience. Our assembly played an important role in raising students’ enthusiasm for participating and gaining confidence in future activities.
