Literary Activities during Astrid Lindgren Week

During Astrid Lindgren’s Week, several quiz shows and literary meetings were held at the European School. The Georgian Program students from grade 4 made presentations about the life and works of the famous author. In a literary quiz show held in the Smart Room, 3rd graders competed in teams. Additionally, grade 7a, 8a, and 8b students participated in a quiz show about Sweden. A team lead by Temo Tvauri became the winner of the competition. At the final blitz round the students showed a deep knowledge about the country.

Degustation of Pippi’s Fritters and Karlsson’s Jams

It’s time for tastiness- like Pippy, the students decided to cook fritters. During the preparation time, they researched best recipes and read one more time the chapter where Pippy enthusiastically learns baking. The fritters by the ES students were very tasty. Another fun experience was a degustation of Karlsson’s jams. The students offered sweets to peers and the School Director as well. Kids enjoyed both activities.

Peer-learning Skype lesson in the European Kindergarten

November 6, European kindergarten children had very interesting peer-learning experience with Miras International Kindergarten in Almaty Kazakhstan. We thought it was a great idea connecting our kids to extend their inquiry abroad through skype to integrate global citizenship. The objective of this networking is to develop children’s international-mindedness and become global citizens which is related to the current inquiry theme “WHO WE ARE” which focuses on building good relationships with others. Kids introduced themselves, sang some songs and share their ideas. They really enjoyed it!

MYP Assembly

On 20th November, there will be 3-way parent-student-teacher conferences in the Main Hall. More details to be shared via Managebac. School is celebrating Astrid Lindgren’s birthday. MYP is joining the event showcasing interesting short stories and participating into different workshops.

Drama Performance Karlsson at the ES Stage

Astrid Lindgren Week continues at the ES. Sandro Akhmeteli State Drama Theatre performed Karlsson at the ES stage. The performance was very successful. The artists demonstrated amazing mastery of performing skills. The kids watched the performance with a big interest and liked the story about a 7-year-old boy and his unusual friend naughty Karlsson.

Student Parliament Meeting

On November 13, after Student Parliament Chair elections, Parliament members held a meeting to select desired commissions for future activities and elect leadership. Vice-Chair became Nita Bakradze, Secretary- Liza Kiria. Annamaria Ikobidze, Paata Kaloiani, Nikoloz Baghdavadze, Isabela Chigogidze, Luka Kintraia, and Nika Korchilava were elected to take positions of the Heads of Leadership, Sports, Service, Public Relations and Communications and Events Commissions respectively.

Doctor’s Day in Red Group

November 14, Nikoloz Shanava’s mother Doctor Ana Godelashvili visited our kindergarten. She talked about Human Body and Health. Nikoloz was the Doctor’s Assistance for a day. The children played with the teddy bear as it was their patient. They checked it and gave teddy some shots. Kids also listen to each other’s heartbeat. It was very fun and interesting experience for our little ones! Thanks to Ana!

Popular Literary Characters in Paintings

The ES students are familiar with Astrid Lindgren’s book characters. The Georgian Primary Program and the PYP students created joyful portraits of Pippi, Karlsson, Emil, Ronia, and others at the Arts lessons during the past month and exposed their paintings, both graphics and colorful artworks, at the London Avenue.

November 14 is the birthday of the Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren-an author beloved around the globe. Many of the European School students came to school dressed as naughty Pippy and gourmand Karlsson. Kids arranged the dance performance for the special guests: John Runeson- Second Secretary at the Embassy of Sweden in Georgia, Tamar Datuashvili - Communications and Cultural Affairs Officer at the Embassy of Sweden in Tbilisi, Tina Mamulashvili-publisher from Bakur Sulakauri Publishing House, Davit Gabunia-dramatist and translator. Kids loved the fact that Astrid Lindgren’s granddaughter Molly, informed about the ES celebration week, sent the ES students warm greetings. The guests shared special stories about Sweden and the famous author with the kids, they presented new books, motivated children and the most importantly inspired love of reading.
