Students Tackle Global Economic Challenges in Spirited Debate
Young minds gathered at the Economics Debate Competition where sharp intellect, spirited argumentation, and bold economic thinking filled the room with energy and promise.Hosted and moderated by Nino Saghareishvili and Mariam Saghareishvili, our AP Micro and Macro Economics teachers, the event proved to be more than just a school debate — it was a demonstration of youth engagement with issues that transcend borders and shape the future of our global economy.
Eight groups, composed of talented students from Grades 10 through 12, tackled pressing economic issues through structured debates, displaying their research, analytical skills, and collaborative strategies. From inflation and income inequality to global trade policies and the ethics of artificial intelligence in economic systems, the topics were as complex as they were relevant.
The panel of external judges featured distinguished economists Tamuna Gagoshidze and Mari Davitadze, whose expertise was instrumental in evaluating the debates and announcing the winners. They were joined by our invaluable administration members, management and teachers , Mariam Umudumovi, Tea Siradze, and Tako Janelidze (AP Statistics Teacher) whose dedication and support were key to the success of the event.
A Global Perspective from the Next Generation
In a world increasingly interconnected through markets, technologies, and policies, events like this serve as a microcosm of global discourse. Today’s young debaters are tomorrow’s economists, policymakers, and thought leaders — and their ability to articulate and challenge economic principles at such a level underscores a crucial shift: youth are no longer passive recipients of economic outcomes, but active participants in shaping them.
- Debate Sessions 1 & 2 & 3: With presentations and rebuttals running in parallel sessions from 11:20 AM to 1:30 PM, each group brought forward compelling cases, with evidence-backed claims and passionate delivery.
- Deliberation and Recognition: After a thorough deliberation, judges commended the high standard of arguments and rewarded all participants with certificates — a small token for their big contribution.
A Future Built on Dialogue
The competition wasn’t just about winning. It was about building critical thinking, encouraging respectful disagreement, and empowering students to speak on issues that will directly impact their futures. As globalization continues to reshape the economic landscape, these debates represent a vital exercise in democratic dialogue and civic engagement.
As the applause echoed through the halls during the awards ceremony, it became clear: this was not only a local school event — it was a meaningful step toward cultivating a generation capable of thinking globally and acting thoughtfully.
