On April 11, the European Kindergarten hosted managers and teachers from various Estonian kindergartens. The guests had a tour around the school and the preschool, attended several activities and shared the experience with local colleagues. The visit was very impressive and interesting for foreign guests.

European School Ambassadors at Council of Europe

The European School Academic Director Sophio Bazadze, MYP coordinator Linda Tsitskishvili and students attended the 36th session of the Congress of local and regional authorities of the Council of Europe from 2 to 4 April 2019 in Strasbourg, France. NGO Multinational Georgia for Strengthening Democratic Values (MGSDV) organized the visit of the ES delegation to Strasbourg. MGSDV supports participation of Georgian youth delegations at sessions of the Council of Europe from year 2012. During the visit to Strasbourg the ES students attended international conferences, seminars and lectures on Global issues. The Council of Europe unites 47 member states, 28 states from the list are members of the European Union. In year 1999, Georgia became the 41st member of the Council of Europe.

Social Enterprise Babale

The ES students from grade 8 of the MYP programme held an exhibition of their artworks. Money collected after selling the students’ handcrafts was spent on purchasing Easter eggs and stationery items and was delivered to the beneficiaries of the Social Enterprise Babale.

Book Week in PYP

On April 1-5, PYP programme held Book Week. Throughout the week students worked on developing reading skills through trans-disciplinary units; they received information about favorite books, authors and characters; during Mathematics classes processed data about reading statistics; in the library read poems in English, French, German and Russian languages and participated in a literary quiz-show; created posters, newspapers and journals. At the end of the week PYP students, dressed as favorite literary characters participated in a costume parade. All the activities planned throughout the week aimed at promoting literacy and fostering interest in books.

Book Week

On April 1-5 the European School held Book Week to promote literacy in young people. Throughout the week our students renewed damaged books; The ES hosted Bakur Sulakaury Publishers, Prospero Books, Books in Vake and other book stores, who offered their books to the ES community. Ecoscope representative Giorgi Bujiashvili held an interactive lecture on How to Read the Universe like a Book. After the lecture students planted pine trees to replace cut trees used for paper production. The most impressive event was the lecture about Braille alphabet conducted by Black Sea University student, who taught ES students how to read Braille script.

Professional Development Day

On April 8, MAC Georgia and British Council conducted training sessions for the ES teachers. About 100 teachers attended sessions on selected themes: behavior management, universal teaching methods, accommodation and modification, teaching strategies and child protection. Teachers had an opportunity to share their own experience with speakers and participate in discussions about student development. The school administration plans to hold a similar professional development sessions in the future as well.

Music Lessons by Norwegian Musicians

The European School hosted Norwegian musicians a few days ago. The guests conducted music lessons for PYP students from grades 3-5 using modern teaching methods. Music Academy of Norway is a leader in teaching music. The musicians arrived to Georgia within the Tbilisi Music Conservatory project and were invited to our school By the ES music teacher Nino Chalisuri, who visited Oslo Music Academy in February. She was introduced to innovative teaching methods during her visit and already applies them in practice at the ES. The Norwegian musicians held a concert after classes. Our guests and ES teachers are planning to continue collaboration in the future.

On World Autism Awareness Day, celebrated on April 2nd , the European School joined the campaign #Iamhere #whereareyou? To support Autism National Center, Chocolate factory Barambo produced chocolates which are available for one GEL at Spar and Carrefour supermarkets. Our students encouraged other school students to join the campaign too.

Solo Exhibition

On April 3rd , personal exhibition of PYP student from grade 5c Alina Spanova was held at London Avenue. Organizers of South Korean art festival Dream Summit visited the exhibition and became impressed by paintings of a young artist. The guests gave her a very positive feedback.
